WELCOME (ish)

WELCOME ish

Ink on coir doormat with rubber backing.
36 x 24 inches, 2026

WELCOME (ish) invites viewers to physically step onto a contradiction. While the doormat signifies a domestic welcome, the intervention—a violent “kick” from the letter “L” toward a barbed-wire frame—reveals a harder truth about the current American landscape. The barbed wire, emerging from the crown of the Statue of Liberty, suggests that our ideals have been weaponized. This piece reckons with the nation’s 250-year history by questioning who is truly invited to experience the “beauty” of the American Dream.
