Why a green bandana?
The green bandana was first worn in Argentina in 2015. The color was adopted as a symbol of resistance to anti-abortion laws by activists in the “ni una menos” or Not One Less” movement, who were protesting violence against women. Then it was taken up by organizers in other Latin American countries, and it has since spread around the world. The green bandana became a symbol known as the “marea verde,” or the Green Wave.” The US has started to embrace this symbol during street protests after the Supreme Court’s decision that stroke down Roe v. Wade.
