It is the image of a female skeleton dressed only with an upscale, expensive hat&#8212;like the ones worn by Mexico&#8217;s upper class women, who were very aware of Europe&#8217;s fashion styles. Today, &#8220;La Catrina&#8221; is an icon of the Day of the Dead celebrations in Mexico. This Loteria card is inspired by Posada&#8217;s iconic etching and it depicts the increasing influence of America&#8217;s Halloween over Mexico&#8217;s traditional Day of the Dead.
